Scene using second person point of view: husband cooking for his new bride

husband cooking for his new bride

You hear her opening the front door and feel your heart beat faster. You can't wait to see the expression on her face.

You are in the kitchen, out of view from the front door, but you have envisioned her finding you in an apron as she discovers you creating a dish in honor of her German heritage…

"What is that stench!" you hear your new bride exclaim in disgust. Your heart drops and so does your spatula. You fight the urge to flee out the back door in memory of your mother's words regarding the drawing you gave her as a child for Mothers Day: "What is that supposed to be?"

You hear her drop her purse by the door and the jangle of her keys on the hook, your anticipation now turning to dread.

“Smells like the sewer got backed up," the nasal voice says as she rounds the corner, her fingers pinching her nose. You pick up the spatula and pop back up to witness the woman of your dreams stop in front of you.

Still holding her nose, she raises her eyebrows. The clock ticks on the wall nearby, louder than the sizzling skillet. "It's hot in here," your bride says as she opens the kitchen window and walks over to open the back patio door.

As you hear the spray of water and shower curtain pulled back, you dump the contents of the skillet in the sink and run the garbage disposal. You ditch the apron in the trashcan and dial the number for Pizza Hut.
